I tend to be clumsy and break glases so I am often left with an uneven numer or an incomplete set of Whinglasses. Over time that leaves me with a lot of different non-matching sets. They are filling up my cupboards, I don’t really know what to do with them and in the spirit of Zero Waste, I don’t want to throw them away either. If you are a plant lover like me, you are in constant need of new flower pots. So here is the solution for both problems: Plants in a upcycled glasses. They are perfect for every home or even as a houswarming gift.
What you need to do:
- First take the glass and put a layer of stones into it. This will prevent the roots of the plant from rotting. It does not really matter which stones you take for this. I choose the stones depending on the colors in the room. So If you want to have a red highlight in the room you can choose red stones, If you want a grey highlight grey etc. If ou do not like the stones to be seen at all you can put a small layer of potting soil first and embed the stones into it. If you really really like the optics you can alsow create cool designs with different coloured stones. The only thing important is, that the stones are further down in the glass. If you are planing to plant succulents or cacti, I would recomend more stones because the plant is more prone to root decay.
- Now you can fill the glass with plotting soil. I favor having the plant on the inside of the glass so I only fill it to about two thirds. But that’s up to you.
- Now you can add your plant or cutting and add soil until you like the visual outcome. Now you have a new free plant pot and more space in your cupboard. I personally really like this as a houswarming gift as well. To turn it into one you can simply add a bow and a card to the base of the plant.
